Crafting is always the way to go with wedding decor. Banners are everywhere in wedding decor. From chalkboard letter banners, to feathered cardstock banners, to traditional triangled banners, they really are everywhere. They are easy to make too! This one that I am working on for an upcoming styled shoot (stay tuned) has been a mix of cloth, tissue paper, and burlap. I still have yet to decide if I will be making it one long banner to hang our four small ones for the back of chairs. I also have yet to decide if I will be adding the extra colors and textures of tissue paper and burlap for the final product or not. We will see what I decide! When I posed this on instagram, it was actually my personal instagram account, I received inquiries on how I made it. So here's the tutorial!
First- you spend lots and lots of time cutting lots of fabric and lots of tissue paper. I knew what colors I wanted for the shoot and so I went to Walmart to the fabric section and headed over to my favorite area- the discounted leftovers. I love that they do this at almost any store that sells fabric! It's so much fun to search through the little snippets of leftover cloth and buy them for really cheap! Especially when you don't need that much like for this craft. So I found the light blue and the white cloth there. I also bought some tissue paper from there and from the dollar store. I got the gold tissue paper at Walmart and the floral patterned and colored ones from the dollar store. Pretty great finds for a pretty great price. So you cut the fabric and tissue paper into small 1/2- 1 inch strips.

To string it onto the rope/twine (whatever you want to use), I used two different methods- one for the fabric and one for the tissue paper. For the fabric, I wanted a really fun looking ring to hook it on. So I grabbed the fabric at the middle and started to twist the fabric.
Then you fold/twist the twisted part into a hoop and tie a double not to secure the ring. When tying the nots, make sure to keep the twisted part tight so your ring is nice and skinny.
The ring then makes it easy to string the piece onto the rope.
For the tissue paper, it's a little easier. You simply fold the strip in half, and pinch an inch down to form a hoop. Then you twist, working your way down towards the ends to secure the hoop. The hoop is then what you use to string the piece on to the garland.
To add variety, I've had some fun with some of the different pieces. I've feathered the tissue pieces and cut the ends of the fabric pieces into threes like so:
Like I said, I'm not exactly sure how the finished product will end up looking like or how it will be used. Let me know if you have any insights of which you like best!
